Whether I’m working from home or in the office, there’s always one magical gift that helps get me through my day and keep me on track…
With the power to turn any moment into any emotion, music has healing abilities beyond anything ever made by humans.
With that said, here is my list of top 5 tracks to help you stay positive through your day.
Beware, if you aren’t a fan of Kanye West, these tracks are actually likely to make your day ten times worse, so please proceed with caution.
- Ghost Town by Kanye West
If I had to sum up this song in one word: Heavenly.
Hear me out. Whether you like Kanye West or not, this track features some serious talent.
From Kid Cudi to 070 Shake, the combination of mixed vocals in this song will be sure to take you from 1 to 100 in precisely 4 minutes, 31 seconds.
Pop fan, hip-hop fan, and anyone else who isn’t a classical music fan… this song is built for you.
- Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson
This track is an absolute classic from the King of Pop himself.
When in need of inspiration, this is always the first on my list.
Put it on play, stare at yourself in the mirror, and tell yourself you will make a change.
- ARE WE STILL FRIENDS? By Tyler, the Creator
If you haven’t heard of Tyler, the Creator, you must be either living under a rock, or 70 years old.
He’s so relevant that even ex-PM Theresa May even stopped him coming into the country by putting him on the same list as some terrorists.
A producing, rapping, iconic genius of modern day culture, Tyler never misses on any of his tracks, but this one is the crème de la crème.
Combined with nostalgic samples from British music from the 70s, IGOR is an album that will be sure to get you off that chair you’ve been sat on all day, and up on your feet dancing.
It’s hard to describe why this song is so good, it just is.
- Forever Always by Peter Cottontale
If you want to be transported to a beach in The Carribeans, this song will do exactly that.
Featuring Rex Orange County, Chance the Rapper, Daniel Caesar, and Peter Cottontale (all of which are some of the best vocalists in the game right now), this dream team takes music to new levels.
As soon as you hit that play button you’ll be in love, and that’s a promise.
50 seconds in, and I guarantee you’ll already have added the song to your favourite playlist.
- Today Won’t Come Again by Donal Leace
Surprisingly, this song is a hidden gem.
Sampled by Kanye in his song ‘Hey Mama’, the catchy tune of this old-time classic is enough to put you in a good mood, nevermind the added vocals by Donal Leace.
In case you don’t already know, Donal Leace is a world renowned folk singer, activist, and educator from America.
He’s performed with the likes of Nina Simone and John Denver, and taught familiar faces such as Dave Chappelle.
Sadly, Donal passed away at the age of 81, due to complications from COVID-19.
This song is a true blessing to humankind, and a real present left behind by the unsung legend that is Donal Leace.
There you have it.
An odd mixture of hip-hop’s greatest tracks, alongside some timeless classics.
If you give all of these songs a chance, there will surely be one that will lift your spirits and help you get through any type of day.
